Want to write a screen play? Want a general overview of how to write something worth filming? Then join this workshop. Chase Johnston Lynch, a seasoned Screen Writer, Film and music Video director will be at hand to give you the breadth of his knowledge.

A break to write your screen play
  • How to edit your work
  • Final critique and edit

What you will achieve:

  • A short screen play that will be passed on to our directors course of which some parts will be filmed

Tues 24th March  19-21.30 for 6 weeks with one week off for writing, ending Tues 5th May. Work to be submitted no later than 11th May. Price £55 but payments can be made in two instalments

Writer’s Monologue Masterclass 6 week course

Writer's Monologue Masterclass with Sharon Colpman

Course details

This 6-part course is delivered by Sharon Colpman, frequent contributor to the Writer’s Block Radio Hour and to the book the Story so Far.

Want to write a meaningful monologue worthy of radio? Not sure how to move your character forward within a play? Want to Write well rounded Characters? Then this course is for you.

Price £45 per person. (This can be paid in two instalments)

What you will learn

The six sessions will cover the following:

  • How to generate ideas from a blank piece of paper and using prompts
  • The definition of a monologue and the ways they are used
  • From examples, how to use monologues within a play and how to write an answering monologue
  • Deciding of character mood and how that might change using p-typing
  • Knowing your character completely
  • How writer’s reveal the inner character

What you will achieve:

  • 2 monologues that will be both recorded and performed in a showcase event.

Saturday 14th March  1-3pm for 6 weeks ending Saturday 18th April. work to be submitted no later than 24th April.

Course details

Edward Gray writer of Passing Moustache and director of obscurest style plays will be your facilitator. Learning his craft in an era of protest and political theatre Ted’s work could never be called dull or predictable.

Creative play writing- 8 week course

Creative Play writing with Kiefer Wes Williams

Course details

This 8-part course is delivered by Grin Theatre’s Kiefer Wes Williams aims to give writers all they need to write a full play

In this intermediate playwriting course, participants are aiming to produce a 45-minute script through guided sessions and workshops related to writing for the stage. Participants MUST have some playwriting experience as this is NOT a beginners course. 

Price £48 per person. (This can be paid in three instalments)

What you will learn

The eight sessions will cover the following elements:

Giving in to Your Muse : the writer and the imagination – how the writer can harness individual imagination through writing techniques and exercises. Also to look how inspiration plays an important role in the writing process.

Setting Goals and maintaining discipline :  How to target the writers time and delegate writing tasks in a sensible and stress-free manner. Setting realistic goals and balancing writing time and lifestyle.

Characterisation and Dialogue :   how to refine characterisation and dialogue through your writing. Understanding the importance of character development and extending how dialogue works to the writers advantage

Mapping the Journey :   Understanding the ideal plotting tools available to the writer. Realising the journey to be taken. Making use of logging techniques. Being one step ahead of the process.

Creating The Script  :    How to pull everything together in a cohesive whole. Learning to edit and facing the final draft. How to access where you are at this moment

Delivery of Script   :  To the tutor and to be given a basic assessment by both MiW and Grin Theatre. For an additional fee we can dramaturg or give a detailed assessment. This can be discussed at the end of the course.

Directors Chair Part 2

Director's Chair Part 2 (Stage)

Kiefer Wes Williams is back with the second half of his course aimed at people that have no formal training in directing.  Ideal for writers wishing to direct their own work, amateur directors from drama groups, actors that have been thinking of stepping up into the directors chair or anyone with a love of stage direction. 

In this section of the course you’ll work towards being an assistant director on a Make it Write Productions show, should you wish to do so, or using your skills in the real world of theatre. Kiefer will build your confidence, practise and technique.

It is better to have completed part one of the course before signing up for this event.

Course details

This course will run as an 8 session course from Saturday 24th February to Saturday 13th April. It will be held at The Studio Below (39 Rodney St. Liverpool)
